West Bengal UG Medical & Dental 2026: Admission Process & NRI Correction Notice Explained

The Directorate of Medical Education, Govt. of West Bengal, has issued two important notices (dated 27.08.2026) for candidates in the WB UG Medical and Dental 2026 counselling process - one covering the admission procedure at allotted colleges, and another offering a one-time correction window for candidates who made an error with their NRI category selection.

Admission Process: What Allotted Candidates Must Do

Once results are published, allotment letters become downloadable from the counselling website via individual login until that round's admission schedule closes. Candidates must report to their allotted college on the designated date and time with all original documents, a self-attested photocopy set, their verified slip, the allotment letter, and 4 passport-size photographs. A final physical document verification will take place again at the college level.

Every candidate must submit an undertaking confirming they aren't already admitted elsewhere through AIQ/State Quota counselling in 2026 or earlier, and must sign the same undertaking on the allotment letter. Colleges will mandatorily retain the original Class 12 certificate, mark sheet, and (for State Quota candidates) domicile certificate, issuing a receipt in return - caste certificates and ID cards are not retained.

Bonds required: a Rs. 1 lakh discontinuation bond (notarized, non-judicial stamp paper) for Government college admissions, or a bond/bank guarantee as required by the specific private/trust/central institute, with preference given to the candidate's choice of instrument.

Reserved category safeguards: If an SC/ST/OBC/EWS candidate is allotted an unreserved seat on merit but can't produce a caste certificate, admission still proceeds with candidature edited to unreserved. If they're allotted a reserved seat but can't produce a valid certificate, the seat is cancelled for that round, with re-entry into later rounds only if they meet the unreserved cutoff. The same logic applies to PwD candidates and PwD seats.

All admissions must be finalized through the NIC server, with a server-generated letter as proof - otherwise the seat reverts to vacant. Dissatisfied candidates may surrender their seat as per the published surrender schedule.

NRI category candidates: must have opted for NRI category at registration to be eligible for NRI choice fill-up; if documents are found inadequate at physical verification, the seat is cancelled immediately and the candidate exits the entire process.

The NRI Correction Window

Separately, candidates who registered as NRI in Round 1 but mistakenly didn't fill NRI choices can email a signed PDF request (only from their NEET-registered email ID, to wbnricounseling2025@gmail.com asking the Director of Medical Education to reset their registration - allowing fresh submission, fee and security deposit payment, and a new verification centre profile letter, applicable from the next round. This facility is available only during Round 1's admission process dates and does not apply to Stray Vacancy or any later round.
