Tamil Nadu MDS Counselling 2026-27: Round 1 Schedule for Government & Management Quota Seats

Aug 31, 2026

The Selection Committee, Directorate of Medical Education & Research (DME&R), Chennai, has released the tentative Round 1 counselling schedule for MDS degree courses in Tamil Nadu Government Dental Colleges, along with Government and Management (including Minority & NRI) quota seats in Self-Financing Dental Colleges for the 2026-27 session. Here's the complete breakdown.

The Round 1 Schedule

Registration, Payment, and Choice Filling & Locking runs from 29th August 2026, 10:00 AM to 3rd September 2026, 5:00 PM. This window applies to candidates within General Rank (GR) 001 to GR 1118, covering a NEET score range of 772 down to 272, and separately to candidates within GR 001 to GR 660, covering scores from 665 down to 272.

Processing of Seat Allotment takes place on 4th September 2026.

The Result will be declared on 5th September 2026.

Downloading the Provisional Allotment Order is open from 6th September 2026 to 11th September 2026, 3:00 PM.

The Last Date of Joining is 11th September 2026, 5:00 PM — notably the same day the allotment order download window closes, just two hours later.

Registration Fees and Security Deposits

Candidates participating in online choice filling must pay a non-refundable Registration Fee of Rs. 1,000, applicable to both Government Quota and Management Quota applicants.

At the time of registration, candidates must also pay a refundable Security Deposit for their respective quota: Rs. 30,000 for Government Dental Colleges, Rs. 1,00,000 for Government Quota seats in Self-Financing Dental Colleges, and Rs. 2,00,000 for Management Quota seats — including Minority and NRI category seats — in Self-Financing Dental Colleges.

Choice Filling Rules Worth Knowing

Candidates can fill choices for every seat type they've applied for — a candidate who applied for both Government and Management quota gets choices spanning both categories, and is encouraged to review every available option before ranking preferences.

Choices can be edited any number of times before locking, but once locked, they cannot be changed — making a careful, final review before locking essential. If a candidate does not lock their choices by the deadline (3rd September, 5:00 PM), their choices are automatically locked as they stand at that time.

Admission to MDS courses is made through online counselling based on rank, applying the rule of reservation via the 200-point Roster method. Once choices are finally locked, requests to change course or college are not permitted under any circumstances.

Reporting and Joining Requirements

Selected candidates must pay the Tuition Fee online (via Debit Card, Credit Card, or Net Banking) to download their Provisional Allotment Order, with the fee structure available on the official website. Candidates are advised to ensure sufficient funds and an adequate credit limit are available before attempting this payment.

At the time of joining, candidates must produce their original certificates in person, along with scanned copies for verification. Failing to report to the allotted institution's Head by the specified date and time results in automatic cancellation of selection and/or admission, without further notice.

Candidates are also required to submit a self-declaration form at reporting, confirming they are liable for forfeiture of their selection or admission if any suppression of facts or misrepresentation is discovered at any point during or after admission.

A Few Practical Reminders from the Notice

The Selection Committee has explicitly stated it does not take responsibility for connectivity or procedural errors during choice filling — meaning candidates should not wait until the very last hour to lock their choices.

No individual communication will be sent to candidates regarding schedule changes, results, or updates. Candidates are expected to check the official website, www.tnmedicalselection.net,  regularly on their own. For queries, candidates can reach out via email at ddpgselcom@gmail.com

Candidates are also reminded not to share their login ID, password, or OTP with anyone else - a basic but important safeguard given how much depends on secure access to the counselling portal throughout this process.

What to Do Now

Complete registration and finalize your choice order well before 3rd September, 5:00 PM, rather than risking an automatic lock on unreviewed or incomplete choices.

Keep your registration fee and applicable security deposit amount ready in advance, based on whether you're applying under Government or Management quota, since these payments are required right at the registration stage.

Once the result is declared on 5th September, ensure your bank account has sufficient funds and credit limit ready for the Tuition Fee payment needed to download your Provisional Allotment Order.

Gather your original certificates and prepare scanned copies well ahead of your reporting date, since incomplete documentation at the college can jeopardize your admission entirely.

Key Things to Remember

Registration, choice filling, and locking for MDS Round 1 run from 29th August to 3rd September 2026, with the result declared on 5th September.

The allotment order download window and the last date of joining both fall on 11th September 2026 — plan to act early rather than waiting until the final hours.

Registration fees and security deposits differ by quota — Rs. 1,000 registration fee for all, plus Rs. 30,000 to Rs. 2,00,000 in security deposits depending on the specific quota and college type.

Choices, once locked, cannot be edited, and course/college changes are not permitted after final locking — review carefully before locking.
